Praise The Graduate

Graduating is one of the most remarkable times in anyone’s life. I can assure you. I’ve been there, done that. The hard work, all-nighters, never having to attend that 7am class that didn’t benefit your degree in anyway what-so-ever and cramming before exams, are over with. Now, let’s move along to the fun part: celebrating.

How do you plan on celebrating?  Well, FiRE + iCE would like to celebrate with the graduate and salute to their accomplishments. And we promise, no textbooks required. Relax and enjoy the night at one of the best places to eat in Boston.

Invite family and friends, come down and grab a bowl. Congrats to all!

Eat Till You Drop

I adore shopping. Who doesn’t? However, the only parts about shopping I dislike are looking at my credit card statements and crying excessively over the unnecessary purchases I made, and the fact that I become so feeble while shopping (due to hunger). I wish I could constantly eat while escapading through the mall. Fortunately, the hunger issue can easily be fixed. Malls are stacked with restaurants to get grub. Although, I’m not talking about “Micky D’s” or Auntie’s Pretzel’s – yes, they are quick fixes, but French fries and pretzels filled with cheese will only make me more depressed.

After a long day of shopping with friends, I like to take a seat and relax for an hour or so – and let’s not fail to mention that I will absolutely be sipping on a margarita.

If you hail from the Rockland County, New York area and find yourself a common visitor of the Palisades Center in West Nyack– one of the largest malls in the country with over 220 shops, restaurants and theatres –make sure to grab a bowl at FiRE + iCE. The restaurant is located on the 4th level of the Palisades Center. I have been to this mall before, and boy, it is large. It was also a dangerous shopping experience, putting me in a little debt. I like to forget about that…

FiRE + iCE’s largest restaurant can be found in the Providence Place Mall in Providence, RI. FiRE + iCE is centrally located near Kennedy Plaza, many historical hotels and walking distance to Johnson and Wales University, RISD, Brown University and Providence College. Perfect location for you and your compadres. FiRE + iCE opened this location in 1999, which seats up to 326 guests. So now you and your shopping buddies (that easily influence your shopping habits) can wine and dine after a long, laggard day of swiping that plastic. A good thing to note is that on Monday nights, FiRE + iCE hosts ‘College Night,’ where with a valid college ID, dinner is only $9.95. We also feature a $1.99 Happy Hour Appetizer Menu. Amazing.

If you reside on the West Coast and are in the vicinity of the Shops at the Anaheim Garden Walk, you are in complete danger. Kidding. Well, kind of. The shops here are amazing and the location is absolutely to die for. The FiRE + iCE restaurant in Anaheim showcases an incredible variety of fresh food, cooked on the open grill, in an invigorating atmosphere. The cool thing about this FiRE + iCE is that it features an expansive outdoor patio with a fire pit. So you and your friends can pow-wow outside and enjoy a superb meal. Or, you and the loved one can have a romantic evening and sip on the signature FiRE + iCE Blueberry Lemon margarita in the fresh, Anaheim outdoor climate.

Anyhow, all of this talk about FiRE + iCE is making me quite hungry. I’m going to grab a bowl. Until next time.

Opening Day: Red Sox vs New York Yankees

Sunday is a very important day for Boston – maybe even more important than my birthday. Its baseball’s Opening Day baby and the New York Yankees will be basking their pinstriped presence at good ol’ Fenway Park, or shall I say “new” Fenway Park with the recent renovations. I’m sure A-Rod and his posse will be coming primped and ready to play their A-game, but with Fenway Park sold out, it will be hard to concentrate with the rowdy Beantown fans.

We get pretty serious.

Obviously we all know that this is the biggest rivalry in baseball and in the entirety of sports – equivalent to the Bruins and the Canadians in the 70’s. The Red Sox and the Yanks have been rivals for a long time and with both teams claiming world champ titles, this is going to be one helluva game. I’m sure the Easter Bunny will even make an appearance.

This year, the Red Sox are waving their red flags, due to the fact that the Yanks have a high powered offense – A-Rod and Mark Texeira. With the Sox generally being an offensive team, GM Theo Epstein has decided to take the defensive approach in response to not resigning Jason Bay – who led the team in home runs last year.

But in my opinion, the Sox spend all their money on pitchers, and to their advantage, the Sox have a very dominant starting pitching rotation, with Beckett, Lester, Lackey, Wakefield, Buchholz (best prospect, but so young) and Dice-K. Needless to say, Beckett, Lester and Lackey are three potential number one aces on any team.

My feeling is that, the Red Sox will still hit, but they won’t be scoring, considering Epstein didn’t replace the “big bat.” However, there is word on Rumor Mill, that in July, if the Red Sox don’t produce enough offensively, they will try and acquire “big bat” Adrian Gonzalez.

So let’s see if the Yankees made the right choice by signing Curtis Granderson and Nick Johnson. Boston’s hoping for a big win here, so get your peanuts and enjoy the game.

Here is the projected lineup:

Ellsbury

Pedroia

Martinez

Youkilis

Ortiz

Drew

Beltre

Cameron

Scutaro

Pitching: Beckett against Sabathia

A Bachelor Party to Remember at FiRE + iCE Boston

When I think of Bachelor and Bachelorette parties, I get a little nervous – the drunken debacles, chaos, cameras and not to mention the fact that the “gentlemen’s club” is always involved. The movie ‘The Hangover’ also comes into mind. But what other city, besides Las Vegas, offers a pure experience of spending the night with your true friends before the lucky one gets hitched? Yeah, I’m talking about Boston. Disagree if you want, but Boston offers an absolute and fun experience for the perfect night to remember…or not.

Beantown – Boston for all of the “outsiders” – is mapped out with fabulous venues to keep your night full of excitement, but when it actually comes down to deciding on the spots to hit, your head can start to spin.

With Bachelor and Bachelorette parties, everyone is always looking for fun, right? Well, I bet you didn’t know that you and your posse could ride that stretch limo down to FiRE + iCE, grab over a dozen bowls and start the night off there.

FiRE + iCE offers up to parties of 200, but of course, reservations are needed. The atmosphere in the restaurant is totally perfect to exercise those vocal chords while celebrating you or your buddies last night of freedom. From experience, I have to say that FiRE + iCE is one of the best places in Boston to start the night off for a Bachelor or Bachelorette party. It’s the perfect pre-game spot. Good food. Good entertainment. Good company.

Keep in mind, FiRE + iCE offers shared libations for not only big parties, but small ones as well. But, I do suggest that when you kick off your bachelor or bachelorette endeavors, you have to indulge in FiRE + iCE’s blueberry margarita, which is made with infused lemon and blueberry tequila. Yum.

These selections will give you the jump start to stay up and capture one of the best nights of your life. But first things first, I want to know about your Bachelor or Bachelorette parties. Did you reenact ‘The Hangover?’ Have you ever started the night off at FiRE + iCE? We want to know your stories.

Vegetarians and Vegans, Have No Fear

Let’s face it, choosing a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle can be very hard when it comes to food. But honestly, how many times have you sat in front of your computer Googling “best vegetarian restaurants to eat at,”  and when you come across one, the closest establishment is 100 miles away. Patience is not a virtue in this case. Thankfully, there are geniuses behind the grills who have already thought about the solution to this conundrum.

Over the weekend I sat down with some vegetarian guests at FiRE + iCE to get the 411 on what grub they eat. Surprisingly, there were a lot of guests who choose to save “thumpers” life that dine at the restaurant.

Let’s take Karissa and John for example. Karissa has been a vegetarian for over ten years. Her boyfriend John is a die-hard meat lover. So I asked, “How do you decide on where to eat without arguing? Do you disagree a lot?”  John told me that at first, it was an ongoing battle and he was restricted to “earthy crunchy” cafés and restaurants, but when one of his friends gave him the inside about the unlimited food choices at FiRE + iCE and the fun atmosphere, he had to try it out.

Karissa’s bowl was full of Tofu and fresh vegetables. She expressed how great FiRE+iCE was for vegans and vegetarians due to the limitless options diners have at the market.  And I’ll let you in on a little “FiRE + iCE inside” – even the Greensburg Teriyaki , Mesquite Barbecue, and Sweet Chili sauces are all Vegan. The truth is that FiRE+iCE will be launching 10 new Vegan sauces next month.

So, maybe one day when I am feeling like I should be eating healthy and saving my cholesterol levels, I’ll take Karissa’s advice, grab a bowl and munch on the endless vegetables with some delectable vegan sauce. It looked damn good!

Dear Fire+ Ice, meet my New Year’s resolution. I look forward to you two getting along. Sincerely, Gillian

Not only is it mid-March already, but it’s that time of year you say, “Oh Damn! Summer is right around the corner and I still have that little cat pouch for a belly.” Whatever happened to those New Year’s resolutions and the broken paltry promises? Eat healthy? Spend less? That lasted about a week – maybe two weeks for the very disciplined among us. But let’s be real, no one can turn their life around by snapping their fingers and going from “eating on the rush” to “searching out organic smoothie bars.” When I do have time to sit down and enjoy a fun and healthy meal, I’ll grab a well portioned bowl of Fire + Ice’s Chicken and Black Bean Mandarin Salad. At Fire + Ice, eating healthy is a cinch – and not to mention the restaurant’s fun, casual ambiance.  All the food pyramids are covered and you can load up on a delicious veggie medley and toss it in a little seafood for one of the tastiest meals that will make your mouth water. So now you can say “bye, bye” to that cat pouch and save cash in your wallet, but remember, those yummy blueberry margaritas may not be so “diet friendly,” but I guess it’s okay to splurge once in a while. Check out the recipe below and make sure to try it on your next visit.

Pineapple Curry Salmon

Grab a bowl, and head on over to our pasta/vegetable section. Once there, I suggest grabbing some udon noodles and bamboo shoots. Then continue on to our protein section and fill up your bowl with our delectable salmon. Now that your bowl is filled, continue on to the sauce station and grab a cup of pineapple curry sauce to top it off! (FiCE Tip: try zesty orange sauce as a great substitute!)

Steak and Frites with Peppercorn Brandy

This tip was given to me by one of our guests. Before heading to the market, order a side of french fries from your server. After doing so, grab a bowl and  fill it with steak, onions and carrots. Head to the sauce station for a cup of our Peppercorn Brandy Sauce to finish up the mix. After having your creation cooked add the fries to you plate. Enjoy!

(FiCE Tip: Load up this dish with Black Pepper for an extra kick)
