Oh Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day, a holiday that serves little to no purpose other than reminding husbands and boyfriends to “show their love” by buying random heart shaped presents and roses, because they know that if they forget they are in serious trouble. Females spend weeks beforehand searching for the “perfect gift.” They scour sports stores and badger their significant other’s friends for advice and ask for their opinions. In the end, does it really matter? I mean come on people its just a Tuesday in February.
I’d like to set a few things straight. No one has ever said Valentine’s Day is the “most wonderful time of the year” or that Valentine’s Day is “your special day”, okay?!
Those sayings are for the Winter Holidays and Birthdays. So honestly, I really just don’t want to hear about how wonderful Valentine’s Day is. Because guess what, its not.
Valentine’s Day for people in school is just an excuse for girls to drag their boyfriends into doing something the boys don’t want to do. And don’t even get me started on the chocolates. Honestly, it’s a nice gesture but your breaking my new-years resolution of eating healthy. Eating bon-bons in bed is so not in the weight watchers diet. With every bite I take you are missing an opportunity to see me in a cute bikini from Victoria’s Secret. Keep up this chocolate crap and I’m going to be wearing Bermuda shorts at the beach.
And for those of you who are single?? Good luck finding something to occupy you. Ben and Jerry’s only makes cartons of ice cream so big and I’ve yet to find a lifetime movie that lasts 24 hours.
It may sound as though I’m just being bitter because I don’t have a Valentine, and that may be part of it, but mostly I don’t see why these demonstrations of love and affection have to be done on one specific day, and why does it have to be about your significant other, there are people that I love in my life that aren’t romantic partners. Every year no matter if I have a Valentine or not, I have felt this way.
So this Valentine’s Day why not start something new and make it a day about appreciation rather than all that lovey dovey romantic nonsense! And I guess we can keep some of that delicious chocolate too!
